T-10 Night Cricket Tournament

The SJOBA T-10 Night Cricket got off to a rollicking start with the TIGERS taking on the KIWIS in the first match.

The TIGERS batting first put up a challenging total of 63 in their allotted 10. The target, however, proved to be a cake walk for the KIWIS who notched up the required runs in only 8.2 overs without losing any wicket.

The second match saw team COLTS getting the better of team FALCONS.

The FALCONS got off to a nightmarish start losing their top 3 wickets in the first 2 overs itself. The captain along with the remaining batsmen then played a steady hand to take the score to a respectable 61 at the end of ten.

The COLTS paced their innings well and got home with an over to spare, losing only 2 wickets.

The last match of the day saw the HAWKS taking on the fancied SHARKS. Batting first, the SHARKS put up 78, the highest score of the day, on the board. Chasing the daunting target the HAWKS failed to play out their 10 overs and were bowled out for 33.

SJOBA Golf Tournament - Prize Distribution

The cloudy Sunday morning with a cool September zephyr just proved to be the icing on the cake for all SJOBA golfers who gathered to show their "putting" skills at The Chandigarh Golf Club, for The SJOBA Golf Tournament 2012. The event was supported by Pioneer Toyota, through its owner Old Boy Sampat Singh, KAVA, through it’s owner Old Boy Akash Garg, and Bacardi. We extend our special thanks to KAVA for helping us to relocate the Prize Distribution venue at the eleventh hour as the Rain gods lashed their fury in form of a deluge just our before the function.

The day started with breakfast at the Golf Club. After the registration, the Tee-Off was on time and the game was rolling. Some of the past-presidents, like Old Boy T P Singh, Old Boy D D Khanna and Old Boy Nippy Ghai,  were seen flexing their muscles to prove their mettle on the greens. Some of the other regular Old Boys, like Vaibhav Mehan and Vishal Sharma, too were seen having their share of the game while the youngsters worked hard to make the event a success.

The game was till late afternoon. The Prize Distribution dinner culminated with a few drinks and old school days chatter with some nostalgic memories.

The next event in line is The SJOBA Cricket Tournament, starting on Sunday, 23rd
September, 2012, at school grounds. Hope to see you all there.

Celebrating Teachers' Day

Teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own.
Keeping with the tradition set by our predecessors, we celebrated Teachers Day with the Principal and the faculty of our beloved school - St. John’s. The event was supported by Kava, through its owner Old Boy Akaash Garg from the Class of 1987.

The teachers were received by President Sanjiv Kumar and the executive members for lunch at Kava. After the cake cutting ceremony, the teachers and the executive enjoyed a brief interaction session and had a little tete-a-tete about their days as students in school. Mr. D’Souza, the famous Biology and Chemistry teacher who retired from school in 1992, was the special guest. He was visibly overwhelmed to be amongst “little men” whom he once taught how the “heart” functions and how to balance chemical equations.

The glorious and eventful afternoon concluded with warm hearts saying good-bye to each other.

Message from SJOBA President

Change is the constant, the signal for rebirth, the egg of the phoenix. It was an honour for me at the SJOBA AGM held on 5th of August, 2012, when the collegium of the Past Presidents bestowed me and my team members with the reins of SJOBA for the coming year, to take our organisation to new heights.

SJOBA is an alumnus that has stood apart from others due to its integrity, activities and brotherhood amongst its members. It is the most coveted organisation of the country with events ranging from the Winter Festival to The SJOBA Rally. I assure you that the coming year will be full of similar activities from the past with additions of new ones too for some more fun and frolic.

I would also like to take the opportunity to extend my full support to you relating to all SJOBA matters and request you to kindly feel free to give in your valuable inputs as to how we can take our beloved organisation a step ahead.

Pro Deo Et Patria.
